Logistics in the shipping world sometimes gets weird. Transportation management software and shipment tracking integration systems aim to keep things in order, but occasionally things go terribly wrong and we\’re left scratching our heads. With all of the freight management and load broker software available to shippers today, serious mistakes should be exceedingly rare.
Yet last week the freight management broker systems for a company called We Rent Goats had their hands full. The long and short of it was that they lost control of a shipment of approximately 100 goats.
There are nearly 12 million trains, planes, and automobiles shipping goods across the United States, and they usually do a pretty good job of keeping things on lock. These goats, however, weren\’t held down by any constraints. Goaded by what we can only assume was greener grass, they blazed their own trail.
This past Friday, in sleepy suburban Idaho, residents were surprised when they looked out their windows and found an assembly of goats wandering around the neighborhood.
\”#Breaking – About 100 goats are on the loose right now in a #Boise neighborhood. They are going house to house eating everything in sight. Nobody has a clue where they came from…updates to follow,\” tweeted a local reporter.
For a half hour, the neighborhood residents watched as the cohort of goats moved through the community ruthlessly bleating and eating. The mystery was soon solved, the answer to which was that aforementioned company, We Rent Goats, lost control of their goats. Without hesitation, the hooved hooligans seized their moment.
We Rent Goats is a company that lives by its name:
\”We rent herds of goats to remove noxious weeds from fields, acreage, pastures, open spaces, ditches, ravines, embankments. You name it and the goats can clear it,\” reads their website.
If you didn\’t know this was an option for mowing the lawn, we\’re right there with you. Once the company caught wind of their wayward charges, they rallied their truck to the suburban scene to collect them. Their search for greener pastures had ended, but not without leaving comedic hoof-prints on an otherwise quiet community that now has better-manicured lawns.
So far as freight management mishaps go, this is one for the history books. Fortunately, the grazing group got back to their roots and all is well.
